Giorgio Kriegsch, in this incarnation, was born in Italy and since his childhood has been attracted to the deeper, more spiritual aspects of music such as chanting. At age 26 he read the "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda and immediately he felt drawn to he teachings of Yogananda and the spiritual science of Kriya Yoga. He then gave up his job and householder life, and began traveling around the world chanting and playing devotional music on harmonium and guitar.
Fifteen years ago, in the holy shrine of Jagannath Puri in the Indian state of Orissa, Giorgio received Sannyas initiation in the Saraswati Order and became Swami Nirvanananda. Since then, he has dedicated himself whole-heartedly to spreading peace and unity between East and West through devotional chanting — from the Soul and for the Soul. Chanting the divine names of God from every spiritual tradition, as taught by his Guru Paramahansa Yogananda, he has been traveling for the last 25 years as a wandering monk throughout the United States, Europe and India, giving hundreds of Kirtans and collecting donations for several schools and charitable projects in and around Puri, Orissa, India.
Merging the teachings of Kriya Yoga with the devotional aspect of Bhakti Yoga and the charitable path of Karma Yoga, he expresses unity in the diversity of many paths and religions, all leading to the same goal: Universal Love and Oneness with Spirit.
Everything in the universe is growing and changing. The physical body needs healthy food, air, water and light; the mind needs positive and creative thinking; so also the soul needs some nourishment: devotion, praise and love for God.
Devotion is the true humus where faith can grow, where consciousness and bliss can spread, where peace can live. Chanting creates peace for the heart, mind and soul of every living being. Only the soul who loves God will find eternal joy.
